English Language Learning
We at Adobe Middle School are enthusiastically involved in ensuring that our students have the support and resources they need to be successful English language learners.
Program Goals
Ensure that students become proficient users of English for social and academic purposes.
Ensure that students receive a high quality education in all subject areas.
Provide students the opportunity to further develop their home languages.
Bridging the Gap
In the ELL Study Skills course, we work on bridging the gap between daily social language and knowledge with the academic language of their core classes (English, science, social studies, and math). We practice the academic language through activities that focus on learning the language that will benefit every student in the short term as well as in the long term.
ELL Activities
ELL activities include a combination of analysis and interpretation of narrative, informational/explanatory, and argumentative texts. Throughout the year, students practice their craft in a variety of situations in order to build on their levels of understanding of the English language.
