Transportation Update

The Elko County School District has made a concentrated effort to eliminate all convenience stops for students such as babysitting, part-time jobs, various youth activities, students spending the night with other students, etc.  We are now transporting more than 5,000 students with a multi-track system and cannot honor any transportation variances except in extreme emergencies.

The Elko County School District Policy on scheduling and routing states, “It is the intent of the school district to eliminate all shuttling of students for non-school activities.  To maintain routes and times students will be picked up and dropped off at the same location each day. (This does not preclude students from riding two different buses as long as the pick up and drop off locations are consistent and permanent on a daily basis for the entire school year.)”

In an effort to maintain our policy, I have instructed our principals and bus drivers to deny any “shuttle” requests which are not an emergency
